tucker+landry

These two kiddos were a blast to photograph! Landry and Tucker are the kids of a former fellow co-worker and are past clients of ours! Last time we saw them - Tucker was still in his mama's belly! :)

Its always fun to see how kids grow up and mature into little people. Landry, for example, has really come out of her shell by leaps and bounds! She was immediately smiley and talkative, whereas the last time we saw her, she hid behind her mom's legs and after 30 minutes of silly dances, we FINALLY got her to be okay with us even looking at her...haha! But that's the fun of being a photographer - being able to capture who your kids are TODAY. Because they change so so quickly.

Please be advised that there is an obscene amount of photos below for a sneak peek - but I couldn't stop myself! I love them!

a million watt smile no less! :)

And what mama doesn't love a good baby foot shot...I can't help myself...

I love this one because its Landry's rendition of Old McDonald that got Tucker laughing every time!

bittersweet memories...

This past week has been full of ups and downs for our family. Daryl's Grandma Cook (Merle), died late last week and her memorial service was over the weekend. Because she had battled with Alzeihmers for many, many years, I never had the opportunity to know and love her. But you can ask anyone in their family and of her friends, and they would tell you she was a beautiful, classy lady. She was a spiritual woman, and a go-getter, who loved her family and her husband. I can't wait for the opportunity to meet her one day! :)

I took this picture of her one of the first times I met her, before Daryl and I were married. It's not how her family will probably remember her, and from what I hear, she would have a heart attack if she saw this picture. But I think that even despite disease, she could still put a smile on her face and enjoy her time here.

Now - on a happier note. Janette, Daryl's older sister, and her husband, Travis, were in town for the funeral so it was super nice to see them! We conned them into taking some pictures of them so that everyone can have an updated one. Heather snuck in for some sisters action too! We picked the hottest day of the spring to take the pictures but they ended up being pretty nice!

and these two together - so beautiful :)

that is always followed by twice as much time laughing!

She's Here!

Finally! She's here! Our new iMac in all her glory! We are super excited to say that we are officially - mac zombies! :) My parents gave us the oh-so-amazing gift of this baby and we couldn't be more thankful and more thrilled with it! For those who know us, you know that we have been working off of the same laptop for a LONG time now, the one where you apply an action to your photo and chill for about 5 minutes for it to load. I could make a pot of coffee per image while editing it took so long! And now - I'm getting so spoiled! Hopefully having this new computer will allow us to get our weddings and portraits sessions out quicker and more efficiently!

the best of friends...

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart..."

That's exactly how we feel about our friends Nikki and Elary. They visited this week all the way from Las Vegas.  Of course - it's not that big a deal for them, considering they used to live here. But we still love to see them come! It had been waaaaay to long since the last time we saw them. Almost a year to be exact.

It's always an amazing thing to me when you make really true friends who, no matter how much time has passed, still "get" you.  With these two, it was like we just picked up right where we left off.   We laughed ourselves silly over the stupidest things (like flatulence) and had some of the most serious conversations we've had all year - all in the matter of just a few days. And that is why we love them. Because it doesn't matter how god-awful or wonderful the conversation is, we're just so happy to be having it with them!

We took some time out to take a few updated photos for them. And when I say a few - I literally mean a few! Ha! We spent so much time laughing, we barely took any pictures! Oh well - a few will do! :) Well here's my favorite from the beginning of editing for you all to enjoy! :)

"...the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest, as well as one's most foolish, thoughts come out simply and safely.  Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away."   ~Dinah Craik, A Life for a Life, 1859

on the home front...

So things here in the Reid house are crazy these days...hence the no posting...

1. Our computer died. So if you're expecting albums or digital images, it will be next week before we can start getting them ordered. AGAIN. I know I know, its upseting.

2. Daryl's working nights. Boo.

3. We are getting an iMAC!! Ahh! So exciting - we will be posting pictures as soon as it arrives!

4. Our poor Scout is getting herself shaved this weekend. Like SHAVED - in a "I won't spread hair ALL OVER my momma's house anymore" kinda shaved.

5. Daryl had a car accident. The lady who pulled out in front of him, her car, was smashed to pieces, but Ole' Bessie - she's like a rock. D says that we can't keep her running for anything, but we could run into a brick wall and bounce off. (Two weeks ago, we replaced the radiator, and last week, we had a flat tire, and THIS week...wreck. Sad really!)

6. I am finally starting to get the hang of working from home. With D working at night, I'm able to work on my photography editing at night rather than avoiding it during the day. It's alot harder than I thought to work at home! But just about the time I'll get the hang of it, it will be time to get a second job! Oh man...

7. We are hoping that maybe a small contest is in order in the next week or so, so we will keep all posted about that!

Until then, enjoy this horrible picture that I just love. It's alot of face though, so be prepared.

My Current Obsession: Fonts

Recently, I've become obsessed with...fonts. I can't help it. I notice and recognize the typeface of branding all the time. I notice when the font that is used for Coca-Cola is ripped off and will search every inch of the internet for the name of a particular font I saw on someone's website. It's ridiculous I know. But I can't help it. I love design and the principles of branding. (I'm not very good at it yet - but I'm trying to learn the best I can!) I am currently obsessed with these:

La Portenia:

Metroscript:

If you'd like to see more delicious fonts, check out Veer. And if you'd like to donate to my obsession we take all forms of font...and cash. :)

No One Can Believe it SNOWED in GEORGIA!

So for the first time in almost 2 decades - there was, not just flurries, but HALF A FOOT OF SNOW in our front yard! AHH! I can't even explain the levels of excitement at our house! When it started snowing, we were falling all over ourselves to get home to see how Scout would react. (I really don't mean to sound like some crazy-dog mother or something, but I do have a fondness in my soul for my girl - despite her fuzzy, sheding features.) So - back to the point. We were excited and spent the better part of the evening playing fetch with snowballs that disappear when they hit the ground - which by the way is hilarious to watch your dog search and search for that ball. Priceless really. Go ahead and prepare yourself for lots of pictures of her. (And for some reason - I just think snow in black and white is so beautiful...I can't stop!)

This is classic Scout. :)

But really - the snow here was beautiful. See for yourself.

On Saturday morning, we met Daryl's parents, his sister Heather,
80-something year old Grandma and some good friends of ours with little kids for a sledding bonaza!
We had an absolute BLAST!

This is Casey...don't you just wanna eat her up!?

And here is Quinn...(above with his beautiful mom Tammy)

and this...this...is Daryl and Heather with his casted arm from his surgery!
We had to wrap it in plastic wrap so it wouldn't get wet in the snow.
But doesn't it kinda look like a hoagie? :) It makes me laugh every time I see it!

And introducing Grandma Margie Reid to the blog...
She was having so much fun! Doesn't she look so happy! We just love her...

Towards the end of the excursion, Davy and Daryl decided to build a ramp of snow to see how much "air" they could get. Pretty much all the adults missed the ramp the first two or three times they tried, but the kids hit it every time! Here is Daryl's successful run...

and did I mention that I LOVE SNOW...
and finally...I like to call this piece - watch Davy bite it.

All the snow is now melted and it's raining - AGAIN. But it was fun while it lasted!

Guy + Mellie Wren in the AUG

They have the sweetest love. It's so beautiful to see two people so well matched.

Our friends, Guy and Mellie Wren, who were just married a few months ago (4 to be exact!) are visiting here in Augusta FOR FIVE WEEKS. We hadn't been able to hang out with them since they got here a few weeks ago. So we took this opportunity to hang out with great friends and do what we love - take pictures! Really, we just exploited them to death because they are so willing and so good looking :)! And here are the results. Stunning.

Mellie Wren - you are simply GORGEOUS!

This is my favorite from the day..how hot is that?

Are you kidding me with all the hotness in this post?? I just love these two.
Its' just a bonus that they make me look good! :)
